In this video we are going to go over the editing steps and the terminology that you will need to help you communicate effectively with your video editor.

After the footage is received from the production our editor will begin the FIRST EDIT. He will assemble your footage according to the agreed creative brief. He will send you the first cut to critique and make suggestions. Be specific and concise.

Every profession has its own terminology. When communicating with our editor it will help immensely  if you are familiar with a few industry terms.

TERMINOLOGY

B-roll – is  the cutaway footage taken from the A roll or the main footage.

Montage- a sequence of different shots to tell a story

Cutaway – cutaway is an editing term for B-roll

Voice overs – is a narrator  commenting on the screen

Color grading : is The process of adjusting the colors, highlights, midtones, and shadows of every shot in the video to match. Colour grading can help set the mood and tell the story.

Subtitle : Text displayed at the bottom of the video that translates or transcribes what is being said.

Aspect ratio : It is the size or resolution of a video. 16×9 is the international standard format in television and most online content. A trend arising from the widespread use of smartphones is vertical video (9:16) that is intended for viewing in portrait mode. And square format (1:1) is also popular for mobile devices and social media.

Motion graphics : also called Motion Design, it is animated graphic design that brings more dynamism in a video such as text on screen, logo, transition and complex video integration.

After the first edit you will receive a SECOND EDIT – our editor will make adjustments  based on his expertise and your feedback.

You will then receive a Final Edit – Your deliverables will be sent to you in the required format for your distribution purposes.

Editing your footage is a highly skilled process. There are countless aspects to consider when crafting your message into a final form. You will be in good hands with our award winning editor.

In our next video we will guide you on the steps to PREPARE TO PRESENT TO CAMERA.

Your production day has finally arrived! This is the day we have prepared you for.

Everyone on the shoot will have received a call sheet the day before. A call sheet is  a timeline of the production day and all relevant details.

To make the most of the day and to have your production run smoothly, everyone needs to come  as prepared as possible.

And It is good to understand that only a fraction of the shoot day is spent actually filming. Setting up, troubleshooting,  adjusting, styling, and changing scenes accounts for a great deal of time on set. Depending on the production, we shoot for about 10 minutes for every hour of setting up

The production day begins with a BUMP IN time and ends with a BUMP OUT time. The bump in time is when the crew arrives to set up. The bump out time is the estimated finish time.  The call sheet will indicate the arrival times of everyone else involved and if we have to change locations.

We will work through the scenes on the shot list and there will be breaks allocated throughout the day as well

If you are new at presenting to camera, Autocue will be available to help you with your lines. You will have time at the beginning of the shoot to rehearse using the autocue.

Whether simple or elaborate, Shoot days are always fun. Meticulous planning will ensure that the production day runs as smoothly as possible. But we also expect the unexpected and love to troubleshoot on the fly and always account for a plan B.

In our next video we will help you understand the

TERMINOLOGY TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR EDITOR

I love seeing all of everyone’s hard work come together on the shoot day.

If you are ready to work together on your next production, reach out to us today.

Detailed pre-production can save you a great deal of time and money and is critical to the success of every production.

Today we are going to go over the possible steps involved in

PRE-PRODUCTION and the importance of planning

After we have a clear understanding of the scope of your project, we develop a CREATIVE BRIEF that will detail the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and  HOW  of your production.

WHO will be involved?

We can coach you or your staff how to present to camera or we can cast and hire actors. We can hire contractors, hair and make-up, stylists,  or voice over artists.

WHAT is your story or message?

We can work with you to create a script, storyboard and shot list to help clarify and visualise your production.

WHERE will your production take place?

We can hire studios, scout locations, and secure permits.  Scouting a location is imperative to ensure the suitability of a location for shooting and crew management.

WHEN will your production take place? Is your production and creative concept weather dependent? Do you have a specific deadline? This will all be determined in the project timeline.

HOW will your creative concept be brought to life?  This will involve a detailed TREATMENT on everything from lighting details, camera angles, props to styling

Great pre-production lays the foundations for a smooth production day and as the production manager, I don’t leave anything to chance.

And as a nimble boutique production company, we are able to keep costs under control and your production running on time while providing a captivating, on brand video, animation, or photo for your business.

In our next video we will go into WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY OF YOUR PRODUCTION

And you can reach out to us today to see how we can manage your next project.

It doesn’t matter if your production is big or small, there will always be

FOUR MAIN STEPS TO ANY PRODUCTION

We are a boutique production agency in Ultimo, specialising in end-to end video, animation, and stills production. But what IS end-to-end production?

We begin with

SCOPING AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

We  want to get to know your business, your goals,  and to understand your messaging.

We use  a “production brief” to gather all your details.  This will be the guide to your project, so the more information the better. We then work directly with you to develop the best concepts and execution for your project.

We work through a project timeline, costs, and your approval process.

Once signed off, we will  move on to pre production

PRE PRODUCTION

This is where we nail down every detail to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible. Precise planning can save you a great deal of money and time.

Depending on what your project requires, we can develop a script and storyboard

,hire all necessary contractors, cast and hire  talent, hire  equipment and studios, scout locations and  secure all permits. We  try our best to leave nothing to chance.

PRODUCTION

Finally the production day has  arrived. The day of your shoot is alway exciting and It’s the production manager’s job to make sure this day runs on schedule.   You will receive a  call sheet the day before. A call sheet is a timeline of the day’s events and all relevant details. Everything from the catering to the shot list will have been considered.

POST PRODUCTION

Finally,  it’s time to gather all your footage and get to work on the post production.  Our award winning editor will  work according to  the production brief. Colour grading, voice overs, music, animations, graphics and text can be added. The edits will go through a series of approval processes. Your deliverables will then be sent to you in the required format for your distribution purposes.

In our next video we will dive  further into the five key steps to scoping and concept development.  Through these videos,  you will have a clearer understanding of the production process when you work with us.

As a business owner, you understand the benefits of video when used as a key element in your marketing strategy.

But  where do you begin?

If you have never worked with a production company before and are unsure of the process and what to expect, we have created a video series to guide you.

In this video we will dive into the first step of the production process which is SCOPING AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT and explain the FIVE KEY STEPS.

Whether your project is a simple 15 second animation or a full scale multi-day shoot, we will walk you through each step of the production process. You may also have your own concept and are just looking for a production company to produce it. We are here to help you with any aspect of production.

We start by gathering all the details of your project in a production brief. A production brief is a guide of what you would like to achieve and how you would like to achieve it. The more details the better.

So let’s jump into the

FIVE KEY STEPS of SCOPING AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

1.   We begin by getting to know your business. You know your brand better than anyone.  So     we sit down with you to understand what you do, why you do it, and who you target. If you are           unsure of  the most effective way to convey your message, we can help you. We collaborate           with you to develop material tailored towards your needs. Creating engaging content targeted at your customer base.

   2.  After we have a better understanding of your business and your vision, we then Identify                   your needs, goals, and the deliverables

        •  What do you want to achieve with your video?

        •  What does success look like to you?  More engagement and ultimately more business?

        •  Do you need one video for your website, monthly videos to keep your audience informed,                a full scale TVC, or a pitch video to send investors?

        •  What platforms will your video be hosted? Social media, YouTube, your company website,                          internal reports?

Once we have established your needs, goals, and deliverables we move onto

   3.  Defining your key message

When developing your key message, you have to be clear on who your target audience is, what they need, and what they will respond to. Do you need to reach them on a deeper, more personal level and engage with them through storytelling? Are you demonstrating a product or your authority on a subject, pitching a new business idea, or showing how your service is right for them?

We discuss the tone of your video. Will it be fast paced and action packed, steady and even toned, happy and light hearted?

What do you want your audience to feel and do after they see your video? This will all effect how your messaging is delivered.

    4.  Once we have a clear understanding of your goals and messaging we will develop Three                 concepts for your video based on the initial production brief.

    5.  We will agree on one concept to develop further based on your goals, budget, and                  time requirements.

Once signed off, and the fee schedule approved, we will move on to pre-production.

As production manager, it is my job is to make sure that your production is on brand, on time, and on budget.  The more I know about your brand and what you would like to achieve the more I can plan to make it a success.

Presenting to camera can be a daunting task. Preparation is key for a smooth production.

Here are my tips for presenting to camera.

  1.  Maintain good posture and eye contact and ensure that your tone is appropriate for your audience. Project your voice and pause when necessary. Pace your breathing
  1. Body language is key. Feel free to use your hands as this allows you to be more expressive and natural. If the subject matter permits, be sure to smile from time to time.
  1. Whether you are using an autocue or not, practicing your script is imperative to a natural presentation. Reading from an autocue can be challenging as the text moves quite quickly. Ensure that the autocue speed is appropriate for the pace of your presentation.
  1.  I always aim to learn my speech by heart. I don’t need to learn the entire speech. When we record the video I  only recite one block at a time. I learn each paragraph and review the next paragraph between takes. This creates a more authentic presentation.

     5.  It is good to record the same paragraph a couple of times before moving onto the next one.                 This gives the editor a variety of takes to use during the editing process.

Whether you are a novice or a professional presenter, our team at Sirius Production will walk you through the process and coach you to get the best result.

We asked six leading industry professional advisors how they instil a sense of trust and confidence in their capabilities when dealing with clients. Below are their responses and their mottos for 2022.

VERONIQUE DIALLO

GENERAL COUNSEL

“FAST-THINKING FIRE EXTINGUISHER”

“I instil a sense of trust and confidence by listening carefully to my clients, everything they say, by watching their communication style and body language, whether it is regarding professional or personal matters. Ultimately my goal is to appease their concerns and be helpful in any way shape or form within the legal remits of the issues at stake.”

2022 MOTTO

“Learn new skills, re-ignite and stay humble” – we have all lived around the world, 2 years of extreme changes and at times absolute chaos, as a result it seems that there is a collective rise of social consciousness, where staying true to oneself is paramount. 2022 is looking brighter, it’s time to start something new, learn new skills and keep evolving.

BEN JENNINGS (CA)

        JENNINGS AND PARTNERS            CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS

“PROBLEM SOLVER”

“I am a naturally confident and outgoing person and that is obviously a good start. I know from my dealings with other professional service providers that I want to work with someone who is confident in their own advice.

You want to work with people that can immediately see what the real issues or problems are when you explain a situation to them. I have the experience and knowledge to do this and quickly start to ask the right questions. I then convey to them that I believe I can come up with a commercial and practical solution. Using language that is tailored to the sophistication of the person I am dealing with.

You need to know what you are talking about, have experience, and follow through on the advice or the clients confidence falls away very quickly!”

PAULA TEAGUE

SIRIUS LAW / SYDNEY NOTARY

“GAME CHANGER”

“I find my positive attitude and belief in a good outcome is valuable to clients. Also, communicating well in writing speaks volumes about a lawyer’s ability.”

“Our goal is your businesses success”

DAVID ARMSTRONG

ARMSTRONG LAW PARTNERS

“COMMERCIAL CONSIGLIERE”

The power of listening is paramount. Showing that you understand a client’s commercial problem and offering insight, whether that is based on commercial experience or a legal solution, is valuable. Admitting when you don’t immediately have an answer also instils trust. I let clients know if I need to ruminate on their problem before giving a considered response.”

2022 MOTTO

“Always be on the lookout for opportunities for my business and that of my clients.”

Accountants and lawyers handle incredibly important and sensitive aspects of their clients’ lives. Their ability to immediately instil trust among  their clients is paramount to building a great working relationship. A well executed dynamic portrait can initially create credibility and is the first step. An introduction video explaining how you can help your client and who you are is the second step. Demonstrating the above mentioned professional skills to instil trust is the third and most important step.

No matter what business you are in, you will be using one of these social media platforms this year as part of your marketing strategy. Our customers and clients expect to be able to engage with us directly. Each platform can represent your brand and create awareness, organic engagement, direct customers to your website, and generate leads and sales.

Marketing on social platforms is almost like a game of cat and mouse. We are constantly chasing and adapting to the latest evolving regulations, automation, SEO, branding, DEI, new features and social channels. Not to mention metaverse, NFT, crypto, and web 3.0. It’s a train you’ll want to get on before it’s too late.

Each platform serves a different purpose and attracts specific customers. The key is knowing how to stand out and attract the right customers while regularly engaging with your online community.

INTSAGRAM

According to Wordstream over 200 million business profiles used the platform in 2021 and over 80% of accounts on Instagram follow a business account. With over 95 million photos and videos shared per day the key to standing out on this platform is to create a close engaged community. Creating an authentic brand voice through reels, stories, still images, and relevant hashtags.

TIKTOK

Originally thought of as a platform for teenagers, this platform has something for absolutely everyone. According to Hootsuite, it’s time we take Tiktok seriously when creating our marketing strategy. The ultimate in UGC and actively engaging with online communities. While TikTok is a platform to escape and entertain, user generated marketing content can be woven into the user experience.

LINKEDIN

A B2B platform for professionals to connect and share industry relevant information. According to Wordstream, LinkedIn users have a longer attention span than other platform users and the “article type posts between 1900-2000 words gets the greatest number of views, likes, comments and shares”. This is great when creating engaging information rich posts.

Creating the right content at the right time for the right audience is key to the success of any business’ social media strategy. Our team at Sirius Productions can help your business create content that will engage your community and help you reach your social media strategy goals.

Online learning has been an invaluable education option for many years. Giving everyone on the planet with an internet connection access to education and a wealth of information. We can access websites like Lynda.com (now LinkedIn Learning) and have a world of business related knowledge in one place. How-To videos, podcasts, and tutorials on YouTube have given everyone a voice and an opportunity to share their knowledge. Online universities are now at our fingertips.

It wasn’t until the global pandemic forced us into our homes that we really had to rethink and reinvent the way we teach and deliver information. In person short courses, fitness classes, educational business seminars, and mass education all had to go digital.  In doing so we have created huge, connected communities. Professions that couldn’t operate during lockdown had to adapt and could effectively sell their knowledge online.

Platforms like Teachable allow anyone to “share what you know” and create online courses and earn income in the process. According to Zapier some of the best general online course platforms are Udemy, Skillshare and Teachable. There are also more targeted online learning platforms. Platforms like go1 cater directly to businesses and create “comprehensive learning and development to help your workforce thrive”. Whatever your business or skill set, there is a course platform for you.

Through professional lighting, styling, camera work, and editing our team at Sirius Productions help educational content creators present their information in the most professional, engaging, and polished form. Trust is the cornerstone to any successful relationship. As professionals we need to project trust, authority, confidence, and empathy.

Roy Morgan conducted an “Image of Professions” online survey in April 2021. They asked 1,267 Australians over the age of 14 which professional they “trusted” the most.

Media professionals, accountants, and lawyers faltered in the eyes of the public. Advertising professionals were rated at the very bottom alongside car salesman.

How do professionals rebuild trust and confidence with their clients and how important is authentic online visual branding?

According to Forbes magazine, there are six building blocks of trust.

Being reliable – staying true to your word and delivering what you promise.

  1. Being seen as a leader in your field – you need to have a proven track record in completing the job at hand and being an authority in your field
  2. Being transparent– keeping your clients and customers informed and engaged in the process is key to earning their trust. Let them know the next steps or if there are any setbacks. This helps them feel that they are a part of the process and there is nothing to hide.
  3. Authenticity and Empathy – Always say what you mean and do what you say. Listen to your client and gather all the details before you offer a solution.
  4. Be fair and upfront – Respect and listen to your clients. No relationship is one sided, this holds true in all professional settings
  5. Be open and approachable acknowledge your mistakes and quickly apologise and do what you can to correct the situation. Acknowledging when you have made a mistake will help your client or customer feel free to do the same.

An image quite literally says a thousand words. Through dynamic still and moving images professionals can craft a trustworthy, authentic voice. The team at Sirius Productions will help you create an online presence that instils confidence in your clients.
